Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has selected Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters explained his reasoning for leaving Tedesco out, with reports tying Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.
The decision has raised eyebrows across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's status among the best in the position. It is among the most talked-about selections heading into the tournament.
Jack Preston was also named in the squad, getting his first Kangaroos selection. Preston's inclusion strengthens the group as Australia builds toward the World Cup campaign.
